Thank you for such a great evening last weekend. We had a ball and appreciated your culinary knowledge and sharing of tips whilst in the kitchen. I don't think such a wonderful meal had ever been prepared in ourhumble abode. We look forward to another cooking journey with you at a future date.... Michelle and Michael B.
Dear Elizabeth, thank you again for a lovely evening. You made it all look so easy and taste delectable! The extra "how to's" we very much appreciated. We hope you enjoyed your evening as much as we did. Best regards, Cheryl S.
I wanted to thank Liz for doing such a great job. I actually learned and retained a few things (given my lack of previous cooking skills, a miracle!) Can't wait to cook some Halibut. I hope to do it again some time. It was great to have everyone there. Had a lot of fun. Lesley W.
Thanks for a great party! Louise C.
Thanks for a great party. I loved the dessert! Sharon C.
Wonderful dinner tonight; great concept. Vicky W.

Elizabeth Manville, accomplished chef (Raincity Grill and the Sutton Place Hotel in Vancouver, The Empress Room in Victoria, Hotel Plaza Athenee in New York), Food Network television star (Cook like a Chef) and CityFood contributor, put a hold on her career a few months back to focus on her role as a new mom, but now she is poised to take her cooking and teaching skills in a new direction with a company she has formed called Dish This! culinary adventures.
The concept is to serve those folks wanting to create a party for their friends in the form of a private cooking class taught in the comfortable environment of their own home.
Its Delicous, Inspiring, Sophisticated, Home cooking and we beleive it!

If someone you know is petrified at the thought of stepping into a kitchen, your Dining Diarist could have the perfect holiday gift idea: private cooking classes that combine learning about food preparation techniques and the social aspects of catering your own dinner party, a.k.a. Dish This!
Elizabeth Manville has honed her craft in luxury hotels and Canada’s embassies in Rome and New York and has been featured on some TV episodes of Cook like a Chef. Now she’s sharing what she knows.
“Some people have no idea what to do — they have brand-new “Ferrari” kitchens but are stuck making Cup-of-Soup, and others are great cooks who just need to brush up,” she says. “I think there’s a strong interest in food in Vancouver, and it’s nice to tap into that.”
Cooking parties are $85 a head, depending on the menu selected, and slide based on the number of people attending. Manville believes that’s comparable to a nice meal in a restaurant, once you factor in parking, drinks, taxes, and a tip. Her parties cost about the same per person as a regular cooking lesson, but she points out they take place in your own home with your own equipment, instead of the fancy tools provided for cooking lessons. “It doesn’t matter what the kitchen is like, I show you what you can do with what you have ... what’s possible.”
She brings the ingredients to you, and you can do as many or as few courses as you like. Manville says she understands that cooking isn’t for everyone, so while some people dive in up to the elbows, others simply have a glass of wine and observe.
Manville admits cooking parties are not a completely unique idea — in fact, others in Vancouver likewww.rebelchef.ca do it — so what makes hers differentwhat makes hers different?
“I think I’m good at explaining what I’m doing and why,” she says. “Hopefully people learn that it’s OK to be adventurous — it’s up to them to interpret the recipes I give them.”
There are 24 shopping days left, so hopefully I’ve given you a head start on your gift list. -CLAUDIA KWAN
